My name is Erin "Eirewolf" Metcalf, and I'm a leatherworker and sculptor living in Santa Clara, California. I sculpted fantasy creatures (especially dragons and Dragon Snails™) in clay for several years (most of which can be found here in my deviantART gallery). More recently I discovered leather maskmaking, and fell in love with leather as a sculpting medium.
I call my aesthetic "whimsical realism." I enjoy the process of designing animals and fantasy creatures as masks, and then carving the designs into vegetable-tanned leather. I then sculpt the masks using a wet-forming technique, and dye and paint them. There are many steps in the process, all of which I do by hand with an eye for detail and craftsmanship. The resulting masks are unique works of art that you can be proud to hang on the wall when you're not wearing them.
I am constantly learning more about leather crafting; the possibilities of things one can create with leather are nearly endless. I am branching out from maskmaking into leather eye patches, jewelry, and other accessories as well, so be on the lookout for them!
