The Bloodbellied Glimmerwing is usually found in the rainforests of Faerie, hunting for insects, slugs, fruits and vegetation. She is a gentle creature to all besides, and a favorite playmate of other fairy creatures.
The Bloodbellied Glimmerwing is aptly named. Her shimmery transparent green-and-feathered wings contrast beautifully with her blood-red underbelly, throat, toes, and tail-tip. Her dorsal regions and muzzle shine with iridescent green scales, and the rest of her body is a rich leathery antique bronze color. Her serene green gaze shows intelligence and a hint of playfulness. This sculpture is a OOAK (one of a kind) piece, created entirely by the hands, heart, and imagination of the artist. She is made from high quality PuppenFimo polymer clay over a strong armature. I painted her with several thin layers of artist acrylics and Pearl Ex powders, then sealed her with a matte varnish. Her wings are fabric, wire, and feathers. Three real seashells adorn her head, two in the form of tiny horns. She has anatomically realistic reptilian ear-holes (with a recessed tympanic membrane). She measures about 10 inches (25 cm) long including wings, and her wingspan is about 9 inches (23 cm) across. She is about 5 inches (13 cm) tall to the top of her head, and up to 7 inches (18 cm) tall to the tips of her wings (depending on how they are positioned). Click here for more pics of this piece. |
