Artist's Comments

Why walk when you can ride? Especially when there's candy to be enjoyed; such confections deserve one's full attention.

Polymer clay and mixed media.

7 inches high (5 inches to top of rider's head), 10.5 inches long (mount alone is 8 inches long).
The rider is less than 2 inches high from bum to cap.

UPDATE: Candy is Dandy and Mean Old Goat will be part of the 2009 Indoor Sculpture Exhibition, sponsored by the Santa Clara (CA) Cultural Advisory Commission, January through July!

I used acrylics on this one. Do you mean you have trouble mixing colors, or is it something else? What kind of paint do you use?

I use cheep acrylics and I can't get it to blend from one color to another like the bottom of the snail.

I think I understand. Part of the problem may be the medium itself -- I don't know how cheap acrylics will behave compared to Liquitex -- but what I do is sort of a dry-brush technique. For example, if you look at this pic, you can see that I painted the purple, then the yellow, then the green. Where it blends, I took a small amount of paint, blotted most of it off the brush, and tapped it on the border of the two colors here and there, sort of fading up. I didn't try to make it an even line; in fact, uneven is better for blending like this. It worked much better on the green-to-yellow blend because I was painting a darker color over a lighter color; it didn't work as well on the yellow-to-purple blend because the purple was painted first.

I hope that helps!
